Fossil fuels

Kelly Mackey

Fossil fuels are converted into energy by taking steps. The first step to make fossil fuels into energy is you have to burn the fuel. One type of fossil fuel is coal, coal is the left over plant life found in the ground. After you burn the fuel you have to heat water to make steam, when you heat the water and it steams, the steam turns turbines. Then when the turbines turn, it turns generators which then create electrical power.

Fossil fuels are used today for many reasons. Fossil fuels are used for cars, airplanes, to power electricity plants, and to put heat in our homes. Also fossil fuels are used to make medicines cosmetics, plastics, ethnic fabrics and lubricants .

Advantages
  • Verry large amounts of electricity can be generated in one place using coal, fairly cheaply.
  • Transporting oil and gas to the power station is easy.
  • Gas-fired power station very efficient.
  • Afoissil-fuled power station can be built almost anywhere, so long as you casn get large quantities of fuel to it.
Disadvantages
  • Mining coal can be difficult and dangerous strip mining destroys large areas of the landscape.
  • Main drawbacks is pollution
  • It produces carbon dioxide(co2)
Non-renewable
  • Once the coal is all burned, there isnt anymore, and our consumption of fossil fuels have nearly doubled every 20 years since 1900.
